Xi, Trump hold phone talks

习主席和特朗普举行电话会谈

BEIJING, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday held a telephone conversation with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump at the latter's request.

周五，应美国新任总统特朗普的要求，中国国家主席习近平与特朗普举行了电话会谈。

Xi congratulated Trump on his re-election as U.S. president. He pointed out that both he and Trump attach great importance to interaction with each other, hope that China-U.S. ties will have a good start in the new U.S. presidential term, and stand ready to push China-U.S. relations to make greater progress from a new starting point.

习主席祝贺特朗普再次担任美国总统。他指出，双方（包括他本人和特朗普）都十分重视彼此之间的互动，他希望中美关系在新总统的任期内有个良好的开始，他愿意推动中美关系从新的起点出发，再上一个台阶。

Xi stressed that both China and the United States, two great countries, are pursuing their own dreams and are committed to making the lives of their people better.

习主席强调，中国和美国，这两个大国，都在追逐自己的梦想，都致力于让本国人民过上更好的生活。

China and the United States share extensive common interests and broad space for cooperation, and the two countries can become partners and friends, contribute to each other's success, and enjoy common prosperity, which will benefit both countries and the whole world, Xi said.
