Folke Ohlsson was a prolific Swedish designer who worked with beloved Nordic manufacturers like Fritz Hansen, Bodafors, and Dux and was especially in-demand throughout the 1950s and ’60s. (He’s credited with helping popularize Scandinavian furniture in midcentury America.) As spotted in a scene from the final season of HBO’s Succession, illuminating a marital spat that sent the show’s feverish following up in arms, the Bellhop lamp by British designers Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby looks like a million bucks. Cleverly inspired by uniforms of hotel bellhops, the dimmable LED lamp (designed in 2018 for Flos) adds soft, luxurious lighting to any space, and the portable design lets you bring it from room to room, really making sure you get your money’s worth.

In the late 1990s, Japanese manufacturer Marutomi enlisted a group of Italian architects and designers to produce a collection of interior goods and tabletop accessories. Marco Zanini, one of the founding Memphis Group members, designed an artful mirror that delivers function and fashion equally by paying homage to the beautiful luster of traditional Japanese lacquerware with modern phenolic resin that’s painted to soften over time.

Based in New York’s Hudson Valley, Fern is known best for its tables, credenzas, and chairs that feature hardwood construction and hand-faceted details. In a delightful twist, the studio just debuted its first lighting, a tabletop lamp made from hand-laced goat parchment shades, a white oak structure, and black-waxed aluminum and white oak bases.
