A dog's reaction to her empty water bowl has racked up 13.9 million views on TikTok.

The on-screen text explains: "My dog pretends she died of dehydration when the water bowl is empty."
So far, the clip captioned: "Why? Can't she just bark at the sink like her brother?" has amassed 1.8 million likes since it was posted on December 7. To watch the video, click here.
According to pet food company Purina, large dogs like the one in the video should drink three liters (5.3 pints) of water per day whereas smaller breeds that weigh 2.5 to 6 kilograms (5.5 to 13 pounds) need around 300 milliliters (half a pint). Like humans, animals need water to survive and water prevents canines from overheating.
The Purina website explains that dogs sweat from their nose and paw pads but "the main way they lose body heat to cool down is through panting which results in a lot of water loss through evaporation. Because of this, keeping your dog hydrated is especially important on hot days."
A dog who eats wet food doesn't need as much water as the food is made up of 65 to 80 percent water whereas dry food only contains around 20 percent.
Drinking too much or too little can be the sign of something serious and owners are advised to seek veterinary advice.

In this case, it looks like the dog has just finished her water and would like a refill immediately. The popular clip has received a lot of attention, attracting over 16,000 comments.
One owner said: "My dog tries to dig in the bowl until I refill it, and then he walks away without drinking any of it."
"This level of pettiness is PRICELESS!!" laughed another.
Another user said: "The dramatics are strong in that one."
"Dogs are so animated and dramatic," said another person.
The last comment certainly rings true as Newsweek has shared multiple articles about dogs who deserve an Oscar for showcasing their theatrical skills.
It's safe to say dogs are hilarious creatures who never fail to make people laugh. Recently, a bull terrier was branded a "drama queen" and a beagle took playing dead to a whole new level.
