The first piece of advice from the window company concerns the type of glazing that you use for all the windows in your property.

Plan-It Windows recommends installing double or triple-glazed windows as they are 'specifically engineered to maintain a warmer glass surface, drastically minimising condensation'.

The experts added: 'Although the initial investment may seem high, the long-term benefits in energy savings and mould prevention are substantial.'

Next up, Plan-It Windows urges people to be mindful of the impact that different types of window frames can have on stopping mould.

They recommend steel or PVC frames as they are non-corrosive, which helps to play a key role in damp and mould prevention.

The experts said: 'These materials ensure a longer lifespan for your windows while maintaining an optimal environment inside your home.'

Another handy way to prevent mould comes in the form of low-emissivity window film, which helps to prevent damp from forming and spreading, as it adds a transparent, microscopic coating to your windows

The window gurus stated: 'This not only helps prevent thermal loss but also significantly reduces the amount of external temperatures entering your home, a key factor in moisture control and mould prevention.'

One of the easiest and most effective ways of keeping mould at bay is to ensure that every room has sufficient ventilation to stop damp forming, which will turn into mould if left untreated.

Plan-It Windows said: 'We cannot overemphasise the importance of adequate ventilation in preventing mould. Installing trickle vents can be a game-changer.

'These vents, which can be installed by professionals for about £40-50 per window, provide continuous air flow, thereby preventing the accumulation of moisture that leads to mould growth.'

This piece of advice concerns windows that are over five years old.

For any windows you have that the above applies to, Plan-It Windows advises draught proofing them as 'a cost-effective way to prevent mould, with options ranging from self-adhesive foam strips to more durable metal or plastic strips with brushes or wipers'.

Explaining the importance of draught-proofing, the brand said: 'Proper draught proofing not only prevents cold air influx but also reduces the moisture build-up that leads to mould,' the window company continued.

Although you can do a lot to prevent mould with the above steps, it is also imperative to proactively prevent mould on a daily basis.

Plan-It Windows recommends ventilating your home on dry days, keeping lids on pots or using an extractor fan while cooking, and ensuring that the doors to your bathroom and kitchen are closed during use.

Mold forms near a window as a result of excess humidity and condensation in a house that has not been sufficiently ventilated

'These simple steps, along with wiping away excess moisture from windows and maintaining good air circulation around furniture, can greatly reduce the likelihood of mould formation,' it advised.

Alongside making sure that your home is free from with small daily tasks, there are long-term prevention methods you can utilise as well.

Indeed, Plan-It Windows says long-term strategies are vital in helping to prevent mould.

When asked what longer-term prevention strategies might include, the company said: 'Regular checks and maintenance of window seals, timely replacement of draught-proofing materials and considering updates to window technologies as they become available.

It added: 'Proactive, consistent care of your windows is the best defence against mould issues, helping to get through the last of these cold months in comfort.'
